1. Zona Hotelera (Hotel Zone on Tulum Beach)

If you want to stay in the heart of all the action, Tulum’s Hotel Zone on Tulum Beach is the place.

It’s the busiest section of town, with tons of restaurants, beach clubs, yoga studios, Mayan spas, boutique shopping, fine dining and the best nightlife in Tulum.

Accommodation options range from luxurious resorts to private villas, perfect for those looking to indulge in a high-end, 5 Star luxury in Tulum.

This is the most popular part of town for tourists, as Tulum Beach is walkable and convenient, with tons of amenities. The area is divided into these three different sections:

• North Beach: Located near the Tulum Mayan Ruins, this is a quiet, romantic area.
• Mid Beach or Middle Beach: Is chic and has the best beach clubs in Tulum, some of the best restaurants in Tulum (including the famed Arca Tulum), and best nightlife in town.
• South Beach Tulum, Esmeralda K and Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve: This area is quiet, and the perfect place for families or couples, with easy access to the Sian Kaan Reserve.

2. Tulum Town (AKA Downtown Tulum or Tulum Pueblo)

Tulum Town is also called Tulum Pueblo, and it’s the downtown area where many Tulum locals live. If you’re doing Tulum budget travel, you’ll want to stay here in downtown.

It has a charm all its own, but this is not the Tulum you’ve seen on Instagram — that’s Tulum Beach.

However, you can stay in Tulum Town to save some money, and spend all your time at the beach as there are plenty of cheap hotels and some of the best Tulum hostels here.

 3. Aldea Zama

The Aldea Zama neighborhood is located between Tulum Town and Tulum Beach.

Besides this a great central location, you’re within walking distance of several restaurants, and there’s newer construction apartment buildings with nice amenities.

When I’m traveling to Tulum, I usually opt to stay here because you can often find great deals for Airbnb Tulum Mexico.

For me, it’s one of the best areas in Tulum — and it now has one of the best all inclusive options.

A new resort built in the past decade, Secrets Tulum is a beautiful place with several restaurants, a spa, gorgeous pool area, and basically all the best things all-inclusive travelers need.

4. Tankah Bay & Soliman Bay

These two Tulum bays are located on the north-side of the town. They’re not too far from the hustle and bustle of downtown, but feel like they’re a world away.

🏝️ Akumal Mexico

Famed for Akumal Bay, where you can swim with the turtles, the small town of Akumal is located about 30 minutes north of Tulum by rental car.

One tip is to stay in Tulum Town (AKA Downtown Tulum) instead of staying on the beach. In fact, eating, drinking and shopping will all cost less in downtown than on Tulum beach, as it’s less touristy.
