11. Have a Fancy Dinner at Arca: The Best Restaurant in Tulum

arca tulum food photos
Grilled venison comes topped with pickled red onions, caramelized peanuts, and a chive/grilled onions mixture.

Led by Mexican-American chef José Luis Hinostroza, Arca has been a Tulum hotspot since opening in 2015, both for food and drinks. If you’re a foodie, this Tulum restaurant must be on your radar.

While it’s not always easy to get a table, and not cheap to eat there, you’re probably wondering, Is Arca Tulum worth visiting? I ate there and would say that it lived up to the hype.

Between the food and the ambiance, it’s easily one of the top things to do in Tulum at night for couples looking for a romantic meal.

Of course, Arca place is also great for a girl’s trip or night out with friends.

However, not all dishes were winners. To see the ones I loved and the ones I didn’t, as well as many Arca food photos and more, in my honest Arca Tulum review article.

12. Have a Mojito at Batey Bar

mojito at batey bar tulum
Whenever I visit Tulum, I always get a passion fruit mojito at Batey Bar in Tulum Pueblo.

You have a lot of choices for things to do in Tulum at night, and there are a lot of places that serve mojitos but Batey Tulum is in a class all its own.

Once you enter this low-key Tulum bar, you’ll see an old VW bug that’s been converted into a sugarcane extraction station because they use fresh sugarcane juice and fresh fruit to make their famous mojitos.

There are lots of flavors, but I always get a maracuya mojito (passion fruit).

🍹 In case you’re wondering, How much are the mojitos at Batey Tulum? They are $120 pesos each (about $8 USD).

This spot is popular with locals and visitors, and many people start their night out here.

You can also spend the whole night at Batey Mojito & Guarapo Bar, where there’s live music most evenings, and a lively and eclectic crowd that spills out into the streets.

13. Go to a Tulum Jungle Party

While you’ll want to check out the best clubs in Tulum Beach by day, the amazing parties with lights, DJs, and high energy don’t kick in till the sun goes down.

Combine all that with the untamed Mayan jungle setting as a backdrop, and you now have a recipe for something stupendous.

In short: Don’t pass up the chance to let your wild side out beneath the tropical trees of Tulum at a jungle party.

One of the best spots to enjoy a jungle party is Casa Jaguar in the middle beach zone.

This could be the best nightclub Tulum has to offer. They hold jungle parties every Thursday featuring DJ sets, live hybrid sets, and artists from all over the world.

Gitano’s Jungle Venue is another great jungle location to hit up. Enjoy mezcal-infused drinks and dance to the gypsy disco music all night long.

14. Stroll Around Downtown Tulum

colorful shops in Tulum Town (AKA Downtown Tulum or Tulum Pueblo)

After some of the best Tulum tacos at the yummy-yet-affordable Antojitos la Chiapaneca, stop in at La Reyna de Michoacan for a refreshing fruit popsicle.

Alternatively, opt for a seafood fusion meal at Sabor de Mar. Not only is the food delicious, but the rooftop terrace offers a perfect vantage to take in the nightlife in Tulum.

End the night with drinks at a bar before heading back to your hotel.

If you need a recommendation for one of the best bars in Tulum, don’t miss Batey Bar for their famous mojitos, live music and great people-watching.

Looking for the best place to see the sunset in Tulum? Head to the rooftop bar at Mateo’s Tulum.

Watching the sunset from a rooftop bar is an incredible way to kick off your Tulum Mexico nightlife experience.

Enjoy dinner and happy hour specials while lounging on a scenic rooftop, watching the sun sink into the horizon. Then follow things up with a lively time at one of the best night clubs in Tulum.

Some of my favorite places for watching the sunset in Tulum include: Naná Rooftop Bar, Mateo’s Mexican Grill, Puro Corazón, Xibalbar, and Ático Rooftop Bar.

Naná Tulum offers music, specialty drinks, sweeping views, and a casual yet sophisticated ambiance. Mateo’s is more casual, with jungle views, a DJ, and an entire level dedicated to hammocks.

Straw Hat also has a rooftop terrace, plus a reputation for hosting the craziest Tulum Mexico party on the block.

Another place to experience the best Tulum nightlife is La Zebra Tulum. (Photo: Expedia)

Tulum Beach nightlife doesn’t have to be crazy and wild. If you’re looking for chill vibes, the Zebra Lounge at La Zebra Hotel is the place to be.

It’s worth coming here for the beach views alone, but the amazing Mexican food prepared by Chef Eleazar Bonilla kicks it up a notch. He is one of the best Mexican chefs working today.

You can also go on a Friday afternoon for live music, as this is one of the best day clubs in Tulum.

Dining in Azulik Tulum should be on your to-do list in Tulum. (Photo: Expedia)

Looking for Tulum places to visit that you’ll never forget?!

The Azulik Tulum Resort was one of the first Instagram-famous Tulum tourist attractions, thanks to its unique treehouse look with suspension bridges through the jungle that connect one building to the next.

The bohemian rope, bamboo, and reclaimed wood aesthetic that made Tulum famous can be seen throughout Azulik Hotel.

However, the most coveted spots on the property are the nest tables at Kin Toh Restaurant.

There are only a handful of these picturesque tables available, so if you want to eat at the Azulik Kin Toh nest tables, you’ll need to book well in advance.

There is also a minimum spend which changes often, so make sure your ask when booking.

Are you wondering what to do in Tulum at night? How about top-notch Thai food, great drinks, and unparalleled ocean views?

The Mezzanine Restaurant on Tulum Beach is the perfect place to kick off a fabulous night.

Few places do as wonderful a job as the iconic Mezzanine of combining great service, spectacular flavors, and breathtaking views.

You can relax to the house music, order your favorite Thai food from the regular or beach menus, and wash it down with a Monkey Buffet or Smokey Dreams drink.

The tantalizing food is flavored with natural ingredients such as freshly squeezed coconut milk, fragrant herbs, and piloncillo raw cane sugar. You won’t find any refined sweeteners or MSG here.

19. Take Part in a Tulum Temazcal Ceremony

A popular activity among wellness enthusiasts, the temazcal Tulum ceremony is a purification ritual. (Photo: Airbnb)

Many people ask me about spiritual things to do in Tulum, and I always suggest participating in an ancient Mayan ritual during this Tulum Temazcal Ceremony.

During this cultural ceremony, you’ll enter a small dome-shaped structure traditionally made of adobe.

Water infused with specific plants and herbs is poured over red-hot lava rocks, creating a steamy environment designed to make you sweat.

Similar to a Native American sweat lodge or traditional banya (Russian sauna), the combination of heat, humidity, and herbs helps purge the body and spirit.

At the end, you’ll sweat out toxins and be purged of negative mental elements.

The Temazcal by Holistica Tulum, Yaan Wellness Energy Spa, and Huaya Camp are all great spots to enjoy a private or group temazcal ceremony.

Of course, this isn’t for everyone. If you’re claustrophobic or don’t show up properly hydrated, you will not enjoy your Mayan temazcal experience.

There are other contraindications as well, so check with the temazcal operator before booking.

20. Try the Tacos at Antojitos la Chiapaneca Tulum

street taco shop called Antojitos la Chiapaneca in Tulum Mexico
For another taco hotspot, go to Antojitos la Chiapaneca Tulum street tacos.

Looking for the highest-rated and best tacos in Tulum?

I’m here to help! Antojitos la Chiapaneca is one of the best restaurants in Tulum Town (AKA Downtown Tulum), and a place locals and visitors both love.

A favorite for Tulum late night dining, this legendary taco stand is known for piping hot and perfectly seasoned tacos al pastor.

These are the king of all the various types of tacos in Mexico, and a must-try for all taco aficionados. Get them with a cold beer or agua fresca (fruit water) to drink.

If you want to try something else, they also have some other tacos, as well as sops, empanadas and tostadas.

🌮 BONUS: Taquería Honorio Tulum

plate of four tacos at Taqueria Honorio Tulum Mexico
Taqueria Honorio is one of the best places to go in Tulum for tacos.

Speaking of street tacos in Tulum, this is another one of the places you must add to your Tulum itinerary — but it’s only open during the day. Still, this is a Tulum institution, so I had to mention it.

Taqueria Honorio Tulum is a small taquería on Calle Satélite Sur downtown.

It’s one of the best taquerias in town for traditional Yucatecan foods like relleno negro tacos, poc chuc tacos, lechon tacos and cochinita pibil tacos.

This delicious taco is a fresh tortilla topped with their signature pulled pork. It is marinated in local naranja agria (sour orange) and achiote (annatto powder) and then slow-roasted in an underground oven for up to 12 hours.

Several spots to peruse include Hernandez Gallery Tulum and Mexicarte Tulum. Parque Museo de la Cultura Maya between Calle Osiris and Calle Alfa is another point of interest.

Although Tulum’s markets aren’t nearly as large as the ones you’d find in Southeast Asia, you’ll still discover an abundance of local stores selling handcrafted souvenirs, jewelry, cosmetics, and more.

The Tulum night markets are also excellent places to find high-quality Mexican silver.

  • Panna e Cioccolato is one of the best spots to eat Italian-style ice cream in Tulum. The staff are wonderful, and the flavors are scrumptious. If you don’t know which flavors to try first, consider Ferrero Rocher, choco-menta (chocolate mint), or lemon pie.

23. Visit a Tulum Cenote

cenote atik tulum
All the travel guides recommend a visit to a cenote, and I wholeheartedly agree!

There’s something mystical about swimming in a cenote at any time of day, but go swimming at night, and you’ll take the experience to a whole new level.

Very few cenotes are open past 5pm-6pm, but some Tulum cenote night swims are available with a tour — just not all year.

Head here to check out all the best Tulum cenote tours and see what’s available.

You can also reach out to some of the tour operators directly and see if they offer night tours. Since the daytime tours are more popular, the might only list those.
